Coastal waters near capes and peninsulas are good places for waiting enemy ships…
… ships usually pass in these zones when they avoid land masses…
But at the same time these waters are very dangerous, the sea is not very deep and it could be difficult to remain undetected…Today I was there, waiting a convoy from NW (some merchants with 2 destroyers), in a long and interesting session with the “realistic sensors accuracy” enabled, just to make all more difficult… 🙂
After a bit a destroyer appeared at SE, at the same distance as the convoy, I was in the middle…
I tried to sink it with a torpedo but with no success… I was detected by its sonar and I went in deep to avoid its depth charges…
I went below its hydrophones’ ranges (54 m) with my engines at full power, but it was impossible to go below its sonar’s range (200 m) because the sea depth was 182.6 m !
I was not able to remain fully undetected (its sonar probability to detect me was 2.7%), but it could not identify my exact location, so it wasted a lot of depth charges… -
